Time Monk presents Maranatha and its secret symbols

The Time Monk Presents

This is the second in our series, 10 books not to miss.

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield is a rich story about secrets, ghosts, winter, books and family. If you haven't read this book yet, now is the perfect time. It's setting and descriptions were made for cold nights! The Thirteenth Tale is a book lover's book, with much of the action taking place in libraries and book stores, and the line between fact and fiction constantly blurred. It is hard to believe this is Setterfield's debut novel (released in 2006), for she makes the words come to life with such skill that some passages even gave me chills. In one passage, Setterfield describes that feeling you sometimes get in childhood when you spend all day reading a book and are completely lost in another world. It is disorienting to put the book down and come back to real life. The Thirteenth Tale is the only book in my recent history that had that same kind of magical, disorienting effect on me.
